Polar Light Technologies Joins the MicroLED Industry Association to Accelerate Display Innovation
Linköping, Sweden – July 22, 2025 – Polar Light Technologies, the Swedish pioneer behind a novel bottom-up pyramidal microLED platform, has officially become a member of the MicroLED Industry Association (MIA), joining the association at the same time as Plessey Semiconductors and UBI Research with the ultimate goal of advancing the global microLED ecosystem.
The MicroLED Industry Association brings together leading companies, researchers and organizations to foster collaboration, address shared technical challenges, and advocate for the microLED display sector. MIA’s mission includes aligning industry voices and accelerating the adoption of microLED through collective insights and joint initiatives.
Polar Light Technologies’ membership adds to its growing momentum following several important milestones. In 2025, the company demonstrated its first micro‑display prototype based on its patented GaN/InGaN pyramidal microLEDs – engineered via a bottom-up fabrication method that eliminates etching damage and supports monolithic RGB emission using a single material system.
“Joining MIA is a natural next step in our path to commercialization,” said CEO Oskar Fajerson. “As we prepare to bring our microLED technology to market, collaboration with industry leaders through MIA will help amplify our impact and accelerate innovation across the display landscape.” Polar Light Technologies aims to deliver products into applications such as AR/VR, micro‑projectors, and wearables.
Polar Light Technologies’ bottom-up pyramidal microLEDs yield sub‑micron pixels, narrow emission cones for improved efficiency, and are manufacturable via CMOS-compatible processes. This architecture has enabled the firm to reach key technical milestones, including successful fabrication of red‑emitting microLEDs at 625 nm – paving the way for a true monolithic RGB offering.
By aligning with MIA, Polar Light Technologies joins a forum poised to shape industry standards, engage in joint research efforts, and strengthen the voice of emerging microLED players. Polar Light Technologies’ MIA membership arrives at a strategically important moment – strengthening its position as a rising innovator in the microLED space, while immersing the company at the center of industry cooperation.
